Hi All, Sorry it's been a few weeks since my last update. I know many were excited to see the first two blogs in this wedding series. No excuses but I got completely wrapped up in life when as always life threw us a curve ball and we've decided to spend some time traveling through asia. So life has gone from business as usual to planning to go overseas for a few months. Do not fret, blog updates will still be coming, as well as if you are looking for photography services please do not hesitate to still contact me and either we can schedule for my return, you can work with someone I have hired for my business, or I may be able to link you up with another wonderful photographer while I am away.
Ok back to the wedding planning. I hope you've all been able to get your locations & dates in order. If not no fret keep treking you may be one of the lucky ones who have a greater amount of time than we did or who live in an area where things do not fill up quite as quickly as Honolulu does(it is one of the world's top destination wedding places after all so dates & locations can be limited here). Please note that I have not put in a time or how to do your budget as that will be very personal based on your circumstances and you will have to have a continual look at it when scheduling any & everything. Remember small purchases add up to big numbers!
When you are able to think to the next step I want you to think about the theme you decided on with your location for the ceremony & reception. Take these to your dress shop when you go to pick out your dress. The shop attendants are there to help you find that perfect dress to fit and the more information you give them the better. Things to think about...location, time of day, date or season(my lovely white strapless dress would have been completely inappropriate in a cold climate where i would have needed many more layers to keep warm), what your fiancé will be wearing (if your man is military and you plan on him wearing his uniform a white instead of an ivory dress may go better although depending on your skin tone pure white may or may not be hard to pull off), what colors are you doing overall. These will all help in finding you a beautiful dress as well as dresses for your bridesmaid(s) & flower girl. Be prepared to go to several bridal shops and maybe even visit some a few times. Ask to have a look at discounted dresses as well. Just because the attendant tries to bring you more expensive dresses does not mean that there aren't more reasonably priced dresses that are just as beautiful. I tried on many and the one I bought ended up being the most beautiful I had tried on. It fit me perfectly. The only alterations I needed was length and it happened to be on clearance as well. VERY IMPORTANT: Don't forget to have a bustle put in so that the train is pulled up for the reception and you can dance more freely!
As for others in your party such as bridesmaids, flower girls, ect ect. It is of personal preference how particular you are about what they wear. Personally I chose the colors and had the girls pick their own dresses because they had very different body shapes & I wanted them to be comfortable in what they wore. On the other hand you may want them all to match and so would prefer to choose which ones they are wearing, Both are very viable options.
Remember though its not all about the women. What the men wear is just as important. Think about the formality of the wedding. Will they be in suits or uniform or will they be in something more casual. Here in Hawai'i often men are in aloha shirts.
For many brides this is a big part of the planning so for now I will leave you with this to go dress shopping. If at all possible find some gals or your mom to go with you and make the experience a fun one! Remember you can add creative things too, for example I used a pink ribbon on the back of mine instead of white for a pop of color.
Have fun & remember to take pictures when trying on or buying whenever they will allow anyways as this is part of the fun. Next time we'll discuss invitations, save the dates & guest attire along with favors. Have a fabulous week & see you soon.
