Good evening everyone! I've had many conversations with people about family & cultural norms lately, so I just wanted to share a picture of the beautiful quilt my grandmother sewed me my husband & I for our wedding. I feel as though many of these skills are becoming a lost art in our society and wanted to display her hard work. I know she is getting along in age and spent a lot of hard work and time on making this for us. It will always be treasured in our home. You see where I am from handmade things were often taken for granted because it was common for people to make things. On the other hand after moving away I see how rare that was. It is a lovely treasure to have something made and passed down. Her making this mean more than words can say. Do you have anything cherished that you feel this way about? If so what is it? How do you display it?
For my clients who have such items and as is appropriate based on their specific desires for a shoot I love to incorporate these items into the shoot. We can do so by having the item(s) in the backgroun, with the person, on someone, or in someone's hands. It is very dependent on what the cherished item is. For example if someone brought a quilt like this to a shoot we could use it to sit on or as a lap blanket with a specific pose. There are a world of things we can do with different items. Sometimes its also nice to get close up artistically done photos of the items as well to emphasize the memories and emotion contained in that item.
Nothing more than this quilt has made me think of and miss home so much! I hope you cherish the memories that are cultivated with past generations that influence your life!
